Description
We will start in Tenjin, the most bustling shopping area of Fukuoka city. This area boasts a big underground shopping mall and most of the famous shops can be found around here. We can, of course, have a short look around there before we continue our trip to a historical highlight of the Fukuoka region. Your guide can explain you all about Japanese products and foods.
From Tenjin we will make our way ‘back in time’ to the much quieter town of Dazaifu, which is an intricate part of the city of Fukuoka. This historical city has a long history and served as the administrative center of the entire Kyushu region for over 500 years. There are a number of temples and shrines here and we will visit the most important of them, the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The street leading up to the shrine is lined with shops selling souvenirs, local delicacies like umegaemochi and restaurants, and we will definitely be able to find a nice local lunch.
After we finished looking around the area we will return to the Tenjin area, from where we will take a walk passing some interesting architectural highlights of Fukuoka. From one of these buildings, we will have a perfect view over a part of the city. Strolling along the river and through an old part of town, we will make our way to Hakata, which is the modern station area of Fukuoka, from where I will bring you to the port or to the train to your next destination.
